Frequently Asked Questions
1. What age are puppies available?
Puppies are not available until a minimum of 12 weeks of age, sometimes longer. Studies prove that puppies benefit from longer exposure with their mother and littermates. They learn more manners and socialization skills. 8 weeks is a proven fear period stage in puppies.
2. What is your vaccination protocol?
At Dreamscape, we follow a modified Dr. Jean Dodd’s Vaccination Protocol. Puppies are vaccinated at 9, 12 & 16 weeks of age. Puppies are only vaccinated against Distempter & Parvovirus. I do not do multiple combination vaccinations. A year from last vaccination, a titer test is performed. This will tell the level of immunity.
Rabies vaccination is not given until at least a year old (12 months) and always is given alone without any other vaccinations.
3. What do you feed your dogs?
All dogs and puppies at Dreamscape are fed a species appropriate raw diet. This consists of raw meat, bones and organs. Please visit the “Raw Feeding” page of this website for more information.
4. How big are your dogs?
My girls generally range from 10-13 pounds at maturity for my miniature lines. Males are generally a little larger than females, usually between 12-15 pounds at maturity. I do not guarantee size on any puppies. Miniature Dachshunds were bred down from the original Standard Dachshund. It is not uncommon to get larger puppies in a litter.
5. Can I pick out my own puppy?
In short, no, I do not let prospective owners pick out their own puppies from the litter. Puppies are graded starting at 8 weeks of age. They will get a second evaluation at 12 weeks of age. Usually by 12 weeks of age, any puppies staying at Dreamscape and any other show potential puppies will be chosen first. At that time, companion puppies will begin to be available. I match each puppy with families lifestyle and energy levels. I do take in consideration gender preference. If you are seeking a certain color only, I cannot guarantee I will have a puppy available.
The most important thing when adding a puppy to your home is the health and temperament of the puppy.
6. How much are your puppies?
Dreamscape puppies generally start at $2,500 for limited registration with a spay/neuter agreement.
7. What comes with your puppies?
When you pickup your Dreamscape puppy, you will also be getting a large puppy take home bag including a binder full of information pertaining to training, diet, grooming and breed specific topics. Also included in your puppy bag is an assortment of toys, appropriate bones to chew, shampoo, treats etc. All puppies come with age appropriate dewormings, vaccinations, vet health exams and pre-paid microchips.
A 2-year health guarantee is offered on all Dreamscape puppies. Sires and Dams have completed breed specific health testing- results can be seen on the link on each dogs’ page.
Lifetime breeder support is always included. I am available day and night and love to hear from my puppy families.
Each member of your family has access to my private FB group. This group is only for Dreamscape puppy owners. You can share pictures, talk amongst other Dreamscape owners, etc.
8. Do you place puppies with Full AKC?
Companion puppies are placed only with limited registration with a spay/neuter agreement. These dogs are to be members of the family only and are not meant to be bred. Occasionally, I will place a puppy in a show potential home. Any show potential puppies will need to be shown in AKC conformation events and gain an AKC championship. Show potential puppies/dogs will also be required to have breed specific health testing done before being bred. I do NOT place puppies into homes to just be bred.
9. I’m interested in a puppy, what are my steps?
Firstly, an application is required by all prospective owners. Please make sure you have spoken to all members of your family and are in agreement before contacting breeders and before completing the application. While filling out the application, the more information you provide the better I can match a puppy with you/your family.
Once an application is completed I will contact you. I will discuss with you any breeding/litter plans that I have. I do have a waitlist.
Once we have established if a Dreamscape puppy would be a good fit for you/your family, I will add you to my waitlist.
